Het artikel wil de aandacht vestigen op een tot nog toe onuitgegeven document uit het oudste stadscartularium van Gent (1237 of kort daarna), dat hier uitgegeven wordt en van de nodige commentaar voorzien. Het gaat om een soort memorandum dat bestaat uit twee zeer verschillende delen: enerzijds een tarief van de Brabantse tollen op de Schelde in Antwerpen (doorgangstol op schepen) en ten noorden van de stad (de geleidetollen van Zandvliet, Ossendrecht, Borgvliet, Bergen op Zoom en Schakerlo) zoals die geheven werden tijdens de regering van graaf Boudewijn VIII van Vlaanderen en Henegouwen (1191-1194); anderzijds een klacht over de willekeurige en exorbitante heffingen waaraan Vlaamse en Henegouwse handelaars op deze handelsweg onderworpen waren. In de inleiding tot de uitgave wordt nader ingegaan op de geleidetollen op de Schelde en op de problematiek van de Antwerpse tollen (Grote tol, Kleine tol of Riddertol). Dankzij een vergelijking met een akkoord tussen de hertog van Brabant en de heer van Breda uit 1212 of 1213 kan dit document gedateerd worden in 1211-1212 of 1212-1213. Het is vermoedelijk gebruikt als basis voor een mondelinge klacht van Gentse handelaars die gericht was hetzij tot Filips van Namen, die van 1206 tot 1211 regent was van Vlaanderen en Henegouwen, hetzij tot gravin Johanna van Constantinopel(1212-1244) en haar echtgenoot Ferrand van Portugal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In het voorjaar van 1474 bereidde Karel de Stoute, hertog van Bourgondi\u00eb, zich voor op een militaire campagne in de Rijnstreek. Hij legde de religieuze gemeenschappen die hoeven bezaten in het graafschap Henegouwen een dienstplicht met karren (\u00ab\u00a0karweien\u00a0\u00bb) op tijdens de oorlog. Het bewaard gebleven prognosedocument, ingedeeld naar districten van gerechtsofficieren, vermeldt de hoeven en het aantal benodigde karren voor elk van hen. Meer dan vijftig kloosters en bijna driehonderd hoeven waren hierbij betrokken. Hoewel de landoppervlakte nooit wordt vermeld, biedt het document een waardevol overzicht van abdijhoeven in Henegouwen in de tweede helft van de 15de<\/sup> eeuw.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
