Dit boek bevat de geannoteerde en becommentarieerde transcriptie van manuscript 319 van het patrimoniale fonds van de stadsbibliotheek van Rijsel, getiteld L’H\u00e9racl\u00e9e flamen et catholicque, dat hoofdzakelijk handelt over de Frans-Spaanse oorlog van 1636-1649 en over de oorlog in Europa tot aan het verdrag van Westfalen (1648). De auteur van dit handschrift, Jean de le Barre, was een cisterci\u00ebnzer monnik van de abdij van Looz-lez-Lille, gedetacheerd bij de abdij van Wancourt nabij Arras.
